What is yoga?

Although it may be called “yoga,” this practice contains many different styles and techniques. It can run the gamut from gentle to vigorous, hard to keep up, and everything in between.

For instance, there is simple breathing exercises where you hold your breath for several seconds and then breathe out as deep as possible. Then there are practices like shamatha awareness meditation, which requires you to pay attention to each detail of what you are doing while focusing simultaneously on one thing.

There are also more intensive practices such as Yin yoga or yogasancigarsada. These types of yoga are easier to do and have less risk, so if you are new to yoga, these are great ways to start.

Yin yoga involves lying down or sitting with your legs together. Breathe naturally, and notice any feelings that arise. With yin yoga, will power is an important part of the technique.

Why practice yoga?

One of the most common questions I get is “Why should people practice yoga?” It depends on what type of yoga you practice, but there are many good reasons to try it.

Yoga can be helpful for everyone regardless of age or fitness level. It can help you keep healthy joints and muscles by being flexible and extending your range of motion. You will also find that yoga helps relieve pain from both mental and physical causes.

By becoming more aware of your body and how it feels, you can identify areas of discomfort and address them with medical assistance if needed. Many doctors recommend yoga as a recovery method after surgery which may lead to reduced pain, improved muscle movement, and less anxiety.

What types of yoga are there?

There is more than one type of yoga, each with its own set of strengths and weaknesses. Finding out which style suits you can be a function of your self-awareness or understanding of what resonates with you.

There are many different styles of yoga, all of which have their place in your overall practice. As we’ll discuss later, there are even multiple forms of mindfulness meditation.

But first let’s talk about yogic philosophy. According to Yogic philosophy, the mind exists before the body. Thus, bending legs makes sense within this paradigm, as does stretching arms.

However, most modern practitioners I know would not recommend that people start practicing by only doing those exercises. Not because they are unimportant, but because it is easy to get injured do so.

Yogis usually begin practices with balance challenges (like deep breathing) to strengthen the legs and pelvises. Then they move up through the leg positions until they reach the shoulders. This way both strength and flexibility are worked together for an integrated exercise experience.

Stomach breathing is also known as diaphragm yoga! This technique helps you control your breath. When you breathe properly, your chest should barely move.

This motion is linked to your confidence level in doing this exercise. If you don’t feel comfortable with it, then don’t use it! It is not necessary for anyone else to learn how to work it out for you.

However, if you have no trouble breathing deeply, then start training yourself here.

Start by sitting down on a floor or chair with your legs stretched in front of you. Place one leg forward and then another back so that your feet are touching.

Your hands can be placed on your knees or behind your backs. Your choice, just make sure when you change positions, you touch both locations respectively.

Next, take a deep breath in and lean forward. Then slowly breathe out while pressing your shoulder blades downwards. Your shoulders will come up automatically as you relax them.

Finally, hold this position for five minutes before changing sides and starting over.

When you do this sequence every time you get into bed, you’ll soon develop a habit of waking up each day with full lungs, clear mind and elevated spirits.

The importance of meditation

Worldly success does not satisfy us and lead to happiness. We need something deeper, something more meaningful for it to be effective.

Meditation is a practice we can use to get rid of stress and create inner peace. It was originally used by monks around temple areas or in classrooms. Now, people have started applying it to their lives to become happier and better versions of themselves.

It starts with meditating once a day for 20 minutes. After you master that, you start working up to doing one session every other day. Before you know it, you’re spending most of your time practicing mediation.

This way, you don’t feel like you’re rushing into things. You take time to enjoy how changing your life makes you feel.

There are many different ways to play music, find a way that works for you. Keep experimenting until you find what helps you relax and falls asleep easily.

What is a tantric level?

If you are familiar with yoga, then you probably already know that there are different ways to practice this art. You can choose between traditional or more creative styles.

There’s also something called Yin and Yang. Tantra falls under the category of Yin practices. They're slower, more relaxing, and less athletic. Sex-related activities such as orgies are considered Yin exercises.

Upper body strength is a good thing, but it isn’t everything. To be proficient in sports movements, you need to work on your lower body strength. Practice keeping your legs and feet close together on both the left and right sides while walking, jumping, running, etc.

Tantra teaches you to relax into things so you don’t hold tensions in your muscles. When you release your tension, you give yourself space to breathe deeply and naturally.

What is a spiritual level?

We are all different, with our own strengths and weaknesses. But we can all rise to a higher level if we work hard enough.

Rising to a higher level is about changing who you really are in your heart to be more love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, leadership, independence, control, or whatever you value most.

It’s about changing what you think and how you act so that others may better recognize you as a leader of integrity and worth.

Raising your vibration isn’t easy; it takes effort and time. However, one of the greatest benefits of yoga is that it helps bring you back to yourself.

By focusing on your breath (and eventually your body mind connection), you will know when you're resting and letting down your guard. This makes rising to a higher frequency easier.

Can I do yoga?

With proper guidance and practice, you can enjoy the benefits of yoga no matter your level. There are many different types of yoga, each with its own style and approach.

Many people think that they need to be flexible and skilled in asana (the yogic pose) to practice yoga, but this is not true.

Yoga begins with chvataka, or the calm face, which involves breathing deeply and slowly. This helps to relax the facial muscles and allows for greater control over the mouth and eyes.

Next comes jalneti, or the neti pot, which is one of the most important practices in yoga. Neti pots are used for removing ear toxins by pouring hot or boiling water into the nose. They serve to clean the nasal passage’s upper airways.

Following several weeks of training in these two poses, students learn more advanced techniques such as shavasan, or sage breath. Shavasan serves to cleanse the sinuses and improve oxygenation of the blood.

Advanced students may also undergo a sunanda, or new yoga posture, where they lie down on their backs and lift both legs together. A sunanda requires much discipline and trust in the teacher, so if there is no back extension, it is rejected.

There are many different ways to practice yoga, and it’s important to find one that works for you. If you don’t feel comfortable trying traditional Hatha yoga, there are other options like tantric yoga or mindfulness-based styles.

Whatever style of yoga you choose, make sure it fits your needs as an athlete and as a person outside of sport. Search online for yogas in your area, visit local classes, or buy a book if you want to learn more about this experience.
